Day 4

I awoke with sore muscles, but a heart that was lighter and a head that wasn't spinning. 

I spend the day at school playing with my son. I was listening to Codependent No More: How to Stop Controlling Others and Start Caring for Yourself again. 

I needed to know what I should do. I am a doer by nature, most codependents are. The difference this time is that I wanted to do something for me and my recovery.

I kept hearing about the 12 Steps. I heard about them at the Al-Anon meeting, but I didn't have a copy of them. I knew the steps were the same whether you were the person with the addiction or the person affected by the addiction. I did a Google search for "12 steps codependency" and found this posting on Sober Recovery

I immediately copied and pasted the blogs into a workable Google Doc. I printed out the pages, punched holes in them, placed them in a three-ring binder, and added some loose-leaf paper. 

After work, I went out to dinner with my husband. It was probably the most enjoyable dinner I've ever had. We laughed, we talked. I believe we connected for the first time in a very long time.  I didn't spend my time wondering what he was up to or what was going on. I just enjoyed my time with him. 

That night, we enjoyed watching some Korean Drama and I slept peacefully until 5:00 a.m., when I had to pack for my trip.
